These three were busy all day preparing their store, shopping for food, taking orders and cooking food. When allowed time to build on curiosity in an environment rich with free choice and open ended play, the complexity of their play becomes so much greater than we could anticipate. Menus were made after discussions about what foods they knew how to prepare. There was talk of pricing and what is a lot or a little. Roll playing what it means to be a chef or grocery store worker and how that can look different for different people. Also learning the words for being a polite and respectful shopper and waiter. So much learning that was not scripted or even something we had planned in our day.

Shannon Davis- Family Child Care provider"Family child care is not babysitting. It's not comparable to any child care center. It's families, in relationships with a professional care provider in an environment that becomes, by design, a second home and a whole bunch of people partnering, trusting, caring and educating each other."
