Look at these boys! Monkey see, monkey do. Outdoor play on ice is amazing. These girls would have stayed out all day if we could have.

Teaching literacy skills to young humans can look lots of different ways. Here we are in the dark! Our glowing boards and black lights make the images hang around a bit longer. One literacy activity at circle time involved me hiding a three dimensional letter in our feeler box. The children took turns reaching in and, without looking, deciding what letter was inside! Our ceiling art! We felt like we were underwater hiding with some jelly fish! Boomwhacker music! Oh man! Piper whacked herself in the face!
Check out these two guys and their building! Magnetic blocks are the best and so rewarding for this age. Lots of math and count happening today! We have been talking about the word “plus” and how it means to put more together. Wow! The children want more and more addition challenges to try. We also were sorting by color.
We have been working on a lot of strategies that we can use when our bodies are feeling angry, sad, surprised and scared! Our top picture is all of us using our breathing arms. Ada and Lucy were under the loft in our “safe place” doing some draining (we drain our anger, sadness, fear etc out like a faucet) and Harlow was holding her breathing stick and doing her best angry face for practice.
Science and math words we heard at the ramp: up, down, decline, fast, slow, more, less, roll, slide, go!!!
We love the fresh, white snow so we can paint it using spray bottles and squirt bottles. Babies exploring ramps. Now that Asher is crawling, he loves to go to the door and look outside.
Our game of smells. There are little pots, each with a different fragrance. We have to match them with the picture of what we think the smell is.

Shannon Davis- Family Child Care provider"Family child care is not babysitting. It's not comparable to any child care center. It's families, in relationships with a professional care provider in an environment that becomes, by design, a second home and a whole bunch of people partnering, trusting, caring and educating each other."
