H was the first to spot it. We felt the frog's bumpy, sticky skin. Then we let it go in our garden to catch some bugs.
On our walk this morning the children would find a field of dandelions and need to lie down in them. "Take our picture Shannon!"
I love pulling out this unique puzzle where the children pick out a card with objects placed in different positions on three rows. They have to take their same objects and arrange them so that they are in the front, back or next to other objects. The focus is looking at what you can see of each object and determining what and why we can see different parts. The cards gradually add more objects and become more difficult.
Each year on Earth Day, I try to plan an activity to bring awareness to these littles of how small changes to our day can help make our world a more beautiful place. Yes, we pick up garbage outside, but we do that everyday while out on adventures. We talk about water conservation and using only the necessary amount of electricity. Today I decided we would focus on food and how we can grow what we can in our spaces so we can cut down on the need for others to grow and transport. We chatted about possibly adding a few more gardens to our space and I shared about composting and worms and how they create rich soil for our gardens. We are going to be getting this old composter going once again and checked out the food and garden waste currently in there. Spring is the perfect time to work with children planting and growing and how easy it is to produce delicious produce.
L has been sharing with us that she is going to be a flower girl! She is going to get to throw flowers! E suggested that they should get married and this is what they would like to wear. The children are wanting to work on longer and unfamiliar words while doing their writing.
Wowza! Our seeds have some sprouts already! The children drew some plants that we would grow in our garden and then glued the seeds of that plant to the bottom where their roots would grow.
Our little bird buddies came out to visit today. We use the bowls for children that are nervous about the birds pooping. We giggled at them jumping in and out of the bowls and running around checking us out.

Shannon Davis- Family Child Care provider"Family child care is not babysitting. It's not comparable to any child care center. It's families, in relationships with a professional care provider in an environment that becomes, by design, a second home and a whole bunch of people partnering, trusting, caring and educating each other."
