Olivia and her family have been watching the process of a catapillar turning into a butterfly at their home. This last week the catapillars emerged from their chrysalis' and were ready to fly away. She brought the butterflies to school so that we all could share in the experience of letting them go. Although they were a little bit hesitant to fly, we put them on our purple butterfly bush so that they could try out their wings when they were ready.

We had fun celebrating Olivia's 3rd birthday! We had a dance party in the dark, colored a large cardboard box to play in, did some ABC yoga, and had some rainbow birthday cake. B
This morning we chatted about animals and their different habitats, or places they live in. We know a bear lives in a cave, a fish in a pond, horses in a stable and a
robin in a nest. I brought out a nest for the children to be able to see and touch. We decided Its a lot of work being a bird and having to collect all of the materials to build with. We love when we can color using our whole body. We had whales, big rigs, spaceships and princesses to name a few.
We started off our day today talking a little bit about the seeds that we would be planting and the plants that they would grow into. The children curled up into balls on the floor as I gently covered them with soil and water and made the sun shine down on them. Then they slowly began to grow and stretched out their stems and leaves until they were beautiful trees and plants. We read a book about seeds that were growing into plants and how we needed to take care of them to help them grow.
Then we went outside armed with pots, dirt and seeds and got to work planting our veggies and fruits . We chose cantaloupe, peppers, tomatoes, cilantro, basil, lettuce and sugar snap peas. Now we have to very carefully to take care of them and water them every day so we can see them sprout and then put them in our big garden! Today was Owen's Spring concert at school. We were excited to go and hear the singing and music and watch the dancing. The school children did great and we got to give Owen big hugs afterward.
We have been sharing lots of photos of our outside time because we have been spending most of our time there! More today! We pulled out the water table and the large swing for many friends. They were both such peaceful experiences.
Chicken Dance time for our warm-up today! Pretending to be birds up in the trees. Ice cream store at the park.
We have begun the countdown to hatching time for our little chickens. It should be less then a week now! We read a book called From Egg to Chicken which showed us the development of a chick from when its first laid to when it pecks its way out of its egg. They are so darn cute! The kids can't wait to hold them.
We put together a 100 piece puzzle with endangered animals. There were many beautiful birds that live all throughout the rainforest. We were loving all of the bright colored feathers. The last few pictures are of the children that found some dead bees that were on my deck. They enjoyed looking at all of these parts. We saw his long legs, his antenna, his eyes and where his stinger is. We just finished our insect study so it was fun to see one close. "What is that sound?" I heard Henry and Ayden wondering together. "Let's go check!" Off we went on an adventure to follow a sound. We fist saw a Bobcat moving, then found it was scooping up large bucket loads of rocks for a landscaping job. As the pile got smaller, we were surprised by a large truck that came right in front of us and dumped another big load of rocks. Wow!. We could have stayed and watched all day.

Shannon Davis- Family Child Care provider"Family child care is not babysitting. It's not comparable to any child care center. It's families, in relationships with a professional care provider in an environment that becomes, by design, a second home and a whole bunch of people partnering, trusting, caring and educating each other."
