Stamps don’t just have to be used in ink! Today we used our letter stamps in playdoh to spell words. We also used sign language letters to stamp and learn how to sign letters in our names and our friends names.
This morning we were using chalk boards to practice writing some letters. I left it up to the children to decide what letters they wanted to write. They surprised me by all writing the entire alphabet! It was awesome! We use chalk boards, by the way, because children have to push down on little pieces of chalk to make their marks, strengthening their fine motor muscles. Many writing tools, such as markers, are so easy to make marks with that they aren’t helping to develop those muscles for writing. Parachute play at circle time.
We brought our a bowl of locks and keys for the children to work with. Each lock and matching key are labeled with matching tape. The children find the match then use their fine motor skills to position the key in the hole so the lock will open. As they got better at this process, we tried to see if we could go faster and faster.
Adding bagfulls of beans to our sensory table is always a hit! I love watching our youngest friends learning from our older friends. Here Luke is copying what Lucy is doing!
It was so hot out this morning. We all got on swimsuits and cooled off in the pools. A lot of friends wanted to join in play-doh time!!
Today we added pictures made out of letters we know. Exploring a conveyer. I asked Olivia about why she added the polka dotted block and she said "I want the animals to go up and fall off the end." Great work little engineer! Kissing babies.
Check out this awesome way to connect upper and lower case letters! Who wouldn't love to write when it glows?

Shannon Davis- Family Child Care provider"Family child care is not babysitting. It's not comparable to any child care center. It's families, in relationships with a professional care provider in an environment that becomes, by design, a second home and a whole bunch of people partnering, trusting, caring and educating each other."
