We have been making these beautiful rocks the last few days and today we were able to walk around the neighborhood like little fairies and place them in places to make people smile. The children loved the idea of being secret and imagining how people would feel when they found them.

Our sandbox was amazing today! There was a thick crust of ice that cracked when we walked on it. Then the fun really began! Lots of water to pour and dump and splash in!
Today we dug out our chalkboards to show our student teacher Carmen how we learn to write and form letters. We used lines and curves and even used wet sponges to make letters with water. Small pieces of chalk are a great way to help children gain strength in their fingers and hands as well as helping them to use a tripod grip while writing. Even our youngest friends, who aren't quite at the forming letter stage, were able to join us and practice with chalk.
We watched a short video about Olympic hockey and which teams were supposed to do the best. They we gave shooting a try! Complete ridiculousness!! Necklace making
The children were exploring what they could send down through the white tube on the loft. To keep everyone safe our rule is that things that fit can be sent down the tube but anything else needs to be walked down. We have to keep the loft gate up because our little monkey Asher likes to climb up but doesn’t know how to get down. The older children were throwing things back up, which doesn’t always work safely, so we thought of an idea to get things back to the top. We used a bucket and a rope to send things like an elevator. That was hit and worked beautifully. Here is the little monkey himself! A little pre-nap game of Kid’s Sequence.

Shannon Davis- Family Child Care provider"Family child care is not babysitting. It's not comparable to any child care center. It's families, in relationships with a professional care provider in an environment that becomes, by design, a second home and a whole bunch of people partnering, trusting, caring and educating each other."
