The children ask all the time if they can work in the Mat Man (Handwriting Without Tears) books. Today we found a page of squares. The children noticed there were four lines to make a square and that they were all the same size. I asked them to imagine there were stop signs at each corner and that they needed to stop with their crayons to avoid a curvy square. We saw some very good looking squares! "Shannon, take our pictures and show our moms and dads!"
We had some discussion today about the lander Odysseus that had a successful landing on the moon yesterday afternoon! I spoke with the children about the different things the lander can do including taking pictures of the moon's surface. We researched what the moon looks like and noticed it's not like our planet Earth! We decided it would tough to live on a planet without water. One of the children assured that if he went to the moon, he would bring his water bottle. I was hinting to the children that we also would need something else to live on the moon. I asked them to take a big breath in and let me know what was going in our noses? One child replied "snot!" Omg. For sure this week but what I was going for was the air we breath.
It was a beautiful, warm morning to head outside. The children were thrilled that the sandbox is thawed out and they can do their construction and cooking again. Little L sat in the sun with me and soaked up some heat. Big L made me some pie to try. E and H were filling up dumps trucks and melting snow to get water for the sand. Middle L was watching closely and copying whatever she could.
As baby L and I were working on breakfast, the older ones were exploring the moonsand I added to the sensory table. Now imagine 2-4 of them singing "It's Raining Tacos" as they were playing and it was quite the experience! Lots of giggles!
E is ready for baseball! He got a group of friends to join him for some t-ball batting practice! Car racing.

Shannon Davis- Family Child Care provider"Family child care is not babysitting. It's not comparable to any child care center. It's families, in relationships with a professional care provider in an environment that becomes, by design, a second home and a whole bunch of people partnering, trusting, caring and educating each other."
