So these are called sequencing cards. They are short stories told through pictures. I hand the children the three cards per story and ask them to put them in order of first, next, and last. Then when they feel like they are done, I ask them to tell me the story. I love hearing their stories about what they interpret is happening. Josie and Ada were very interested today and did quite well!
We have been working a bit with a nutrition unit that I received from a food programs grant. The children very much enjoy a grocery shopping game where they are each given a list of items that they need to purchase at the grocery store. They then spin and find out which food group we need to purchase an item from be it vegetables, fruits, proteins, grains, or dairy. Then they find the item from a shopping basket, add it to their little basket and check it off the list.
We also played a fruit sorting game where we had to put all of the same foods together on one plate. Doga counted the number fruits and vegetables we ate throughout the day. We learned that you need five servings of fruits and vegetables per day. By the time lunch was over we had already had three. We were so excited that we were going out in the water to play today! We were able to find a suit for everyone! Lots of sprinkler and splashing fun was had all!
If your child does not have a suit or swimming diapers at school, please try to send them soon. The suit will stay at school all summer and we will wash it. Check out Ayden's rocket ship! He was so proud that his drawing was blasting off.
We strung beads today to make necklaces. Some of the children were very deliberate about what beads they used, making patters or themes of colors. Everyone worked very hard and had great focus. A little "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" to start out out Tuesday group time. Car wash day for our backyard play cars. Lots of soap and bubbles. Hold you head very still while we sing. See if your animal can stay balanced on your head. A game of Same and Different. I ask "tell me why these three cards are the same/different?" I love hearing all of the possibilities they come up with.
Tag bags are a hands on learning tool where children can identify numbers, quantities, colors and use their fine motor skills to open the bags different fasteners. I was holding up my 3 and asking whose bag was greater, the same, or less then mine. Check out these little cuties on our walk today!
The children love challenges! Today I challenged them to a pattern competition. I gave them patterns that were already started and they were trying to see if they could figure out the pattern and finish it. We used colored poker chips as our pattern makers.
We have been trying to get To Epic for weeks! Today was a beautiful day for a walk. We were able to enjoy the sun. There were lots of different kinds of vehicles to wave at and have honk at us. It was especially fun to walk along the path and pick dandelions. We also found a large hill that we were able to toss stones down and watch them roll. The wind was really breezy and the children loved putting their arms out to their sides and flying like birds into the wind.
We have been reading a lot of fairy tales and fables this week. They children seem to really enjoying the stories with imaginary characters and lots of things but could only happen in our imaginations. One of our favorites is The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Here's a photo from this morning of Doga telling the story to his three friends. A little later in the morning the children made some of the characters from the story. Please encourage your child to retell the story using their characters. It truly is a priceless experience.

Shannon Davis- Family Child Care provider"Family child care is not babysitting. It's not comparable to any child care center. It's families, in relationships with a professional care provider in an environment that becomes, by design, a second home and a whole bunch of people partnering, trusting, caring and educating each other."
