Deb brought in this little piggy vacuum that sucks up tiny pieces of garbage. The children have enjoyed dumping out the little pieces of paper and sucking them up again. Harlow brought in her stuffed snake today. It was taller than her! We got out our cubes to measure and compare how big it is. The snake is 77 cubes, Harlow is 60, Wesley is 57, and Luke is 54.
We decided to walk and find out about the lights on the trucks. Lots of electrical work is happening at the end of our road. Also some boulders were moved and trees cut that were fantastic for climbing.
It’s moments like this one, that I captured after lunch quite by chance, that I absolutely love family child care. With our recent “changing of the guard” or graduation our friend Harlow has become our leader. She has had to follow the older girls lead for the last year and now is finding out what it’s like to have others follow her! Ellie adores Harlow and loves to join her at the art table. I heard Harlow instructing her on how to color with different types of lines and then assisting her with her picture. Lots of silliness on our walk today!
As we were exploring some of our dinosaur books this morning, I got the question “what is a volcano?” We looked at the one in the book, found a video clip of one erupting and also of the lava flowing out onto the Earth, then we constructed our own in the sandbox.

Shannon Davis- Family Child Care provider"Family child care is not babysitting. It's not comparable to any child care center. It's families, in relationships with a professional care provider in an environment that becomes, by design, a second home and a whole bunch of people partnering, trusting, caring and educating each other."
